I’m sharing not my own thoughts, but a few sentences from Jesus Calling, by Sarah Young. If you’re not familiar with her unique devotional writings, she writes in a way to where Jesus is referred to as “I” or “Me”. As if Jesus is speaking directly to you. This is taken from a past reading on June 8th:
“I know everything about you, far more than you know of yourself. But I restrain My yearning to “fix” you, waiting instead for you to come to Me for help. Imagine the divine restraint this requires, for I have all power in heaven and on earth. Seek My face with a teachable spirit. Come into My presence with thanksgiving, desiring to be transformed.”
The part of this that spoke volumes to me is where it says, “I restrain My yearning to “fix” you, waiting instead for you to come to Me for help.”
I’m a fixer by human nature. I want to fix things or people around me that are broken. Most often my way of fixing doesn’t match up with how God wants to do things. In fact, my desire to “fix” gets in the way of God intervening with His divine power.
If we truly believe we are made in His image, then He passes this yearning to fix down to us. But instead of us doing the fixing, He wants us to restrain it. And then wait for Him to intervene.So He can do what He does best….Fix.
He fixes the heart that is broken.
The heart that is disappointed.
The heart that is in utter despair.
The heart of a loved one gone astray.
The heart of an enemy we can’t stand to be around.
And most amazingly, He fixes my own heart.
If God chooses to restrain his yearning to fix, and He lives in me, then it is through His power alone that I too can let go and let Him do the fixing. He could zap us and make us do whatever he wanted, but because He loves us and desires a deep relationship with us, He chooses to patiently wait.
I want to be like that too. But it’s only by letting go and letting Him take complete control for this to happen.

Dear friend, I urge you to grasp this powerful truth that God is patiently waiting for you to turn over your “Fix it” list to Him. He is the master repairman and He does the best job at fixing broken things.
