Desperately Waiting

June 2, 2017June 1, 2017Lisa Preuett

Have you waited for something so long that you feel like there’s no hope?

Still longing to find true love? A child of your own? A better job? Financial freedom?

Or maybe you’re still waiting for that strained relationship with your loved one to be healed. The one you’ve been praying about for so long. The one that hurts your soul to the core when you think about what happened to bring such hurt.

Let me take us to a place in the Bible that I’m praying will bring some hope to your situation.

In Mark 5:25-34 we find a weary-worn-out woman. She too had been waiting for some help. Relief. Hope. Anything!

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.  She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

For twelve years she desperately pleaded for someone to help her. Did you catch that? Twelve years! She trudged down this path for the long haul. Certainly not the quick fix we are so characterized by in our culture today.

We’re told she spent all she had on doctors. All she had. Every penny she owned was desperately given in the hope that someone would find a cure for her non-stop bleeding.

Although her situation was physical, I think we can still relate to her level of desperation in whatever our circumstances are.

Do you feel you’ve given all you have? Whether it be financial, mental, emotional or spiritual…you understand that place.

We’ve sought out professional help and spent a fortune.

We’ve exhausted all our resources.

I’ve done all I can do and there is still no change.

Did you notice the last part of the verse? It says instead of her situation getting better, it got worse.

Can you relate to that, dear friend?

I certainly can.

There were seasons of my life when I felt like I was doing everything I possibly could to improve a hopeless situation. Yet, instead of getting better…it got worse.

So hang on with me here because this is not where the woman’s story ends!

I’m painting a vivid picture here so we fully understand just where this woman truly is.

She is utterly desperate. At her wits end. She has no other options. No money left to spend. No more mental or emotional strength to exert.

She has no other place to go for help.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”  Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

The news about Jesus must have finally reached her! Always surrounded by a crowd of people, Jesus was often very hard to approach. The people would flock to him and once it was known he was in a certain location, it became quite chaotic.

The scripture says, she came. Don’t miss this. She heard about Jesus, but she didn’t just sit around and wait for someone else to tag along with. She acted with boldness and confidence.

I can just picture this. She’s not just waiting for Jesus and his disciples to come toward her, hoping they will end up somewhere near her. She sees Him. She pushes her way through the large crowd. She’s determined to get to Him.

Nothing is going to stop her.

The most powerful part of her story, in my opinion, is what she was thinking. She says, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.”

Her desperation drove her to surrender. Her surrender ignited her FAITH. And her faith is what healed her.

But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.  Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.  He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.

Not all physical suffering has this kind of ending. But the powerful truths from this woman’s story can bring HOPE and FREEDOM to any hopeless circumstances.

*She didn’t give up. (Not even after twelve years!)

*She intentionally made a move toward Jesus.

*She didn’t let the crowd stop her.

*She surrendered completely and truthfully to Jesus.

Jesus confirms her faith. It wasn’t touching his clothes. It wasn’t anything she did.

It was her FAITH.

Oh how I long to be like this woman! Her determination. Her perseverance. Her faith.

Dear friend, I don’t know the details of your journey. I don’t know how long you’ve been waiting for some type of healing. I don’t know how God will answer your prayers. But I do know this:

When we desperately surrender our longings to Jesus, we can walk in peace and freedom through any situation.

Blessings to you!

Lisa

Keep Moving Forward

Can hardly believe that we’re pounding the pavement of a brand new year! Where in the world did 2016 go?

As we stare 2017 in the face, what goes through your mind as you look back on 2016?

*Did you experience some challenging times and were relieved to start a new year?

*Was the last year an exciting one for you and you didn’t want to let it go?

*Or if you’re like me, perhaps you can look back and identify some things that were wonderful, yet at the same time point out things that went terribly wrong.

Wherever you put yourself, I want to encourage you to keep pressing on into the new year!

For me personally, 2016 was an exciting journey for me as my first book was published! If you’ve been following my blog for some time, then you know the highlights I’ve shared along the way. Some of you may have wondered why I hadn’t posted anything new for several months. Apologies to you all! The publishing process and book release consumed MUCH of my time…and still does.

God has blessed the release of Embracing The Race in so many ways. Ways I had not even imagined. Please pray it will continue to get into the hands of people that need it most.

Here’s a quick update on how things have gone so far:

*The book was in the top 10 on Amazon (for newly released devotional books) for 3 straight weeks.

*The book has 50-plus five-star reviews on Amazon!

*The books are available at four book stores and three running stores, and more opportunities are starting to open up.

*Barnes & Noble stores in the local area allowed me to do book signings and I’m attempting to do some out of town as well.

*God is opening up the doors for me to speak about the book to groups of people. (This is really a stretch for me because it’s one of my fears!)

*I could tell countless stories of people who have told me that the book has inspired, encouraged and equipped them with HOPE and COURAGE to run the race God has called them to run. (Many of these people are not runners!)

I share all this with you, not to brag or lift up myself, but to give glory to God alone. He is the one who called me to write this book and He is the one who opened the doors for it to be published.

There were many times along the journey that I wanted to quit. Didn’t think it was going anywhere. Thought I might be wasting my time and effort.

But what God calls us to, HE will FINISH if we will not give up and KEEP MOVING FORWARD!

Are there things in your life where you feel like you just want to quit?

Do you feel like there are things you know deep in your heart you are called to do, yet you don’t see them going anywhere right now?

Ever get the urge to stop pursuing good things because you don’t see any fruit and you think you might be wasting your time?

I want to encourage and challenge you to keep going! Ask God to confirm the things you think He’s called you to. Ask Him to remind you of the purpose and calling He has for your life. And just because you’re on the right path doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps along the way.

I experienced some bumps along the way in my book journey, but as discouraged as I was, I kept going.

*The publication date was delayed several weeks because the editors had issues with the Ebook version.

*The second shipment of my books had some printing problems and I had to wade through some frustration with the printer and publisher before getting another shipment with quality books.

*Four weeks after release date, Amazon ran out of books and ordered more right away. However, the distributor waited another 4 weeks before shipping them out!! (Talk about frustrating! I had to learn the hard lesson of life that I am not in control.)

I share this with you because I want you to see the reality of this truth:

Even when we are on the right path God has called us to, there are going to be some obstacles that attempt to stop us in our tracks and lead us to believe we must be doing something wrong or maybe we didn’t hear God right in the first place.

I don’t know what God has called you to or where He is leading you, dear friend. But I do know that He promises to finish what He starts in us. He promises to be with us through every valley and every challenge that comes our way.

Keep Moving Forward!

Even if it’s baby steps.

Even if you’ve taken some steps backward.

Even if you don’t feel like it.

Keep on running the race He has called you to and keep your eyes on the finish line.

Blessings to you!

Lisa

Sunday Is Coming!

March 25, 2016February 11, 2017Lisa Preuett

Dark. Gloomy. Hopeless.

This is what oozed out of the disciples on that Friday when Jesus was crucified.

Waves of grief washed over them as it became obvious that Jesus was no longer alive.

He was dead.

To top it off, not only were they grieving over the loss of their beloved teacher, but now they were fleeing for their very lives. If they were found by the Roman soldiers, surely they’d be dragged away and tortured just like Jesus was.

Huddled up together away from the crowd, imagine the misery that hung over them in that room.

Ever been there?

Full of misery? Hopeless? Depressed? Fearful?

We can all identify with the disciples in some way or another. Our circumstances are much different from theirs, but our souls feel just as heavy when we feel hopeless about the future.

But just three days later, everything changed!

These fearful, panic-stricken cowards went from hopeless to hopeful.

And not just hopeful, but full of courage and boldness. Full of unspeakable joy. Overflowing with peace that compares to nothing else in this world.

The resurrection of Jesus changed everything for them.

The resurrection of Jesus filled their dark, empty souls with truth and strength.

The resurrection of Jesus was the turning point for them, taking them from death to life.

A scripture that absolutely amazes me is found in John 20:19…

On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!”

Behind LOCKED doors, the disciples trembled with fear. But that didn’t stop Jesus from coming to be WITH them.

How often do we find ourselves behind locked doors of our own choosing?

We lock the door to our heart in an attempt to cover up hurt.

We lock the door to our soul to block out unbearable pain and suffering.

We lock the door to God’s blessings because of doubts and wavering trust.

But Jesus is able to break through our locked doors!

He is able to replace our pity with His peace.

He is able to dissolve our despair into dependence on Him.

He is able to take our deepest wounds–the things that threaten to crush us–and turn them into something beautiful for His glory and eternal purpose.

So on this good Friday, be reminded of not only what Jesus DID but what He is still DOING.

Call out to Him and allow Him to unlock your doors. It may feel like Friday, but SUNDAY IS COMING!!

Blessings to you!

Look How Far You’ve Come!

March 25, 2014October 4, 2014Lisa Preuett

Fourth grade math has been a struggle for my daughter this year. One day recently she got “stuck” on a problem and burst into tears. She picked up her math book and flipped through the many pages of lessons still to be completed for the rest of the year.

Look at how much I still have to do this year! I’ll never get through this silly book. I just can’t keep going!

I uttered a desperate prayer asking God to help me encourage her in that moment. How could I get her “unstuck” out of her moment of frustration? How could I keep her focused? What could I possibly say to encourage her?

She kept flipping through those pages mindlessly. The last third of the book was still left to be done. And then it hit me!

I picked up her math book and instead of pointing out the pages she still had left to do, I pointed out the pages she’d already completed….the first two thirds of the book!

Look here….you’ve already finished these pages! There are more pages you’ve completed than pages you still have left to go. You’re going to get through this because LOOK HOW FAR YOU’VE COME!

Her frown turned into a half smile. Then she heaved a sigh of relief. She picked up her pencil and kept going.

God has a way of speaking to me through my daughter’s struggles. As I watched her continue her math problem, He spoke loud and clear to my heart, reminding me that we can get overwhelmed when we focus too much on what lies ahead of us. We often lose sight of how far He’s brought us in certain areas because we’re so consumed with what’s up ahead. We fear the future. We stress over the uncertainty….the unknown.

While we are saying, What if? What if?

He is saying But look! But look!

Look how far you’ve come. Look how I’ve carried you. If I carried you this far, I’ll keep carrying you every step of the way.

Sometimes we just need to stop and take a look back. Not looking at past sins that are forgiven. Not looking at the past in ways that cause us pain or regret. But simply looking back at how much we’ve grown in our faith. Take a look back and remember from where you’ve come. Areas of your life have changed drastically. You don’t react the way you used to. Sins you were once tangled up in are now memories of the past. Yes, you still have a way to go, but look how far you’ve come.

God is faithful and He will continue what He started in us. If He came through for you in the past, then He will carry you through today. He will carry you through tomorrow. And next month. And next year.

So where are you “stuck” at this season of life? Stressful job? Difficulty in your marriage? Tension with your kids? Uncertainty with your finances? Do you feel like you just can’t make it through this time? Feel like throwing up your hands in disgust? Doubting that there is no way you can get through this current struggle?

Whatever it may be dear friend, I encourage you to stop and reflect. Take a deep breath and be still. Ask God to direct your thoughts back to where He’s provided. Back to where He’s healed. Back to where He’s strengthened you. Back to places you thought you’d never come through. Yes, you are going to make it! Yes, you are going to get through whatever it may be. Yes, because LOOK HOW FAR YOU’VE COME!

Philippians 1:6 “Being confident of this, He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus”
